Team building for low morale When the team is tired, flat or running on empty

After a tough year, a restructure or a long run of pressure, people stop going the extra mile. We run programmes that lift the mood and give the team something to feel proud of together.

Usually solved with The Give-Back Programme

Signs you will recognise

  • People do what is required and nothing more
  • Good people are leaving, or talking about leaving
  • Sick days and late arrivals are creeping up
  • Successes go by without anyone noticing
  • Change is met with a shrug or with cynicism

Why it happens

Low morale has causes: workload, uncertainty, feeling unappreciated or unheard. A party alone doesn't touch those, and a team day that feels like forced fun can make cynicism worse.

What helps is a day with meaning: an achievement the team is genuinely proud of, a chance to be recognised, and space to say what would make work better.

How we tackle it

Usually with The Give-Back Programme, adjusted to your team after the planning call.

  1. Planning call

We ask what has worn the team down, so the day acknowledges it rather than ignoring it.

  2. Build a Bike

Teams earn parts and build bicycles for children from a charity you choose. Few things lift a team like the handover itself.

  3. Facilitated debrief

We reflect on what the team achieved together and what would make day-to-day work better, and capture the ideas.

  4. Written summary

The ideas raised, in writing, so management can respond. Being heard is a big part of rebuilding morale.

What changes afterwards

  • A shared achievement with real meaning
  • A team that has been heard, with its ideas captured in writing
  • Renewed energy and goodwill to build on

What a team day can't fix

If morale is low because of pay, workload or how a change was handled, a team day won't fix that on its own. It can show people that leadership is listening, but only if management follows up on what comes out of it.

Other problems we help with

  • Poor communication

Messages get lost, people assume instead of asking, and hand-overs keep breaking.

  • Conflict and tension

People avoid each other, take sides or have stopped speaking up.

    Usually: The Communication Programme

  • Silos between departments

Departments blame each other and requests between teams disappear.

    Usually: The Communication Programme

  • Lack of trust

People keep things to themselves, don't ask for help and check each other's work twice.

    Usually: The New Team Programme

  • A new manager

A new manager is taking over, or someone has been promoted to lead their former peers.
